This was originally intended to be part of the previous Valentine photo shoot. As the time drew short before the next Valentine's Day, I knew I had to live up to the previous Valentine. I finally did the shoot one cold winter day .

I would light it inside, protected from wind, and then rush it outside onto the stone porch floor. It would blow out before I could even grab the camera. Finally I stayed inside until there were decent sized flames. I could barely handle the box long enough to bring it out and drop it on the porch. Once it landed, this time, it stayed lit long enough for me to shoot several frames of decent shots, including a really nice, entirely ash heart that was my second choice for this postcard.

On the actual V-Day itself, I was in Athens, Georgia visiting Robin Colleen Moore. I bemoaned that, for the first time in my life, I had the time to go to Mardi Gras, and no one to go with. All the New Orleans natives I had met over the past year were leaving town to escape the abuse.
