9999

Thursday, September 9, 1999 - "9 o'clock"

(Feel free to check out the old page.)

Why I'm not calling it a Wedding anymore...

Because I'm not getting married, ok? Guys I've never met or have been warned to avoid or already tried dating (and after that they should know better) are planning to show up in hopes I might have a change of heart. The only friend who would really appreciate the bonus of U.S. Citizenship is female and I can't legally marry her anyway.

There are a few guys I know I love and would happily marry. Most of them are welcome to attend, alive and in one piece even.

Me? in White?

There are also repeated inquiries as to whether or not I'll be wearing a wedding dress.

ARE YOU ON CRACK?

Hence, there is no dress code. I'll have just come back from Burning Man a few days before, so dress as wacky as you want. Have a bridesmaids' dress you'd like to wear, dare I say it, again? How about a wedding dress? Especially for the boys? (Men in skirts is a Good Thing). You're a girl who's always wanted to rent a tux? Or, wear a tacky tux printed T-shirt? Or, whatever, you know?

Gifts?

Just say no. If you can help me pay for the church and the band (I figure $5 a person, with any profits going to the church, the band, people who volunteered above and beyond the call of sanity), and participate in the Potluck part of the event, that's plenty. Please contact me if you are interested in the potluck part; cthulhia@apocalypse.org.

When?

September 9th begins in New Zealand at 7 AM ET, September 8th, and ends in Nome, AK at 6 AM ET, September 10th.

It will be first be 9 o'clock (AM) on September 9th at 4 PM ET, Wednesday September 8th. The last 9 o'clock (PM) on September 9th will be 3 AM ET, Friday, September 10th. I am probably going to try to do something for those two times, suggestions welcomed.

I have the First Parish Unitarian Church in Medford for Thursday, September 9, 1999. The concert part will probably be from 8-10 pm ET. If you can help me pay for the site and the band, that would be GREAT! A potluck will be happening from 6:30-onward. Please contact me if you are interested in the potluck part; cthulhia@apocalypse.org.

Why 9999?

This is detailed on the old page. The one change is that, as it turns out, there are a lot of party dates left this year. I'm not the only lamer. Even New Year's. (Hmmm, I hosted Y2K date #1, the 99th day of the year, and 9/9/99 will be Y2K date #2, and no one who isn't trying to be in Paris or something seems to have made plans yet, hmmm...)

Some NIN fan *you've* turned out to be.

(Non NIN fans: Trent/NIN is performing live at the MTV Music Awards the same night).

First, bite me.

Second, if Trent chooses to entertain those LOSERS who stay home to watch TV when there's an all-ages concert/party they could go to, well, fine, I guess those ZOMBIES are more likely to go out ... er log on and buy his records without thinking, "Covers of Carly Simon? Um, Why Trent Why?" so it's in his best interests to play for them instead. ; )

Third, it'll be rerun on MTV about 8 million times.

Fourth, we can watch it AFTER the concert. I'm planning to stay up til 3 am and see off the last 9 o'clock 9/9/99 anyway, I'd like company.

What about the first 9 o'clock 9/9/99?

4 pm, Wednesday. A small toast by myself, or a big tea party/picnic by the Charles, or, budgets willing, terrorizing whichever snazzy downtown hotel does the serious High Tea.

Where?

Not Utica. I don't live there anymore. We've moved to greater Boston. I tried for Harvard Square but that First Parish believes a poetry reading is more important than me. Add this to my list of reasons Why Poetry Readings SUCK. (Open art performance is ok tho'.)

Ok, so, what do you have planned?

Stuff. I get grandiose ideas of what should happen, then decide I'm trying to micromanage fun and stop. I've figured this out since the original HTML document, so let's see how my ideas have (thankfully) devolved.

Ideas:

Art Exhibit, 9/9/99 zine:
Realistically: I couldn't get 30 friends to do something goofy and artistic for my 30th birthday. but if folks show up with stuff and get arty, I'll get copies/photos. DO bring your camera.

Laser Show/Club Nights
Realistically: Hey, it'll already be Goth night at Man Ray the night before. Other than that, everyone can bring their laser pointers...

Fireworks/Bonfire: Ah the price of moving to a city... if someone has sparklers, I have Peeps. But, um, not at the church, ok?

Film/Animation Festival:
Realistically: The Brattle will be showing a restored "Yellow Submarine." YAY! I figure we can check out the 8 pm show before Man Ray.

The Pipe Organ concert:
"Tocatta En Fugue in D Minor". The organ in the church is apparently too small to do this piece justice. Maybe I can get Jim to do it... if he can do acoustic covers of Nine Inch Nails... well, you never know.

The Music festival:
Back when I wrote this, the greater Utica area would've killed for this.
As it is, they're recovering from hosting "Woodstock 1999."
Jim Infantino/Jim's Big Ego actually IS playing. YAY!
WFNX is sponsoring a free festival at the Hatch Shell that Saturday.

9999's 9K Road race:
Folks into a long run that morning? Perhaps a long walk if the weather is temperate... 9K is about 6 miles, so, about 80 minutes at my "running" "speed", which is comparable to a 100 minute walk.
