The Voyage of the Crimson Squid (Baby Harp Seal V)

The Shire of Coppertree prevents presents the Voyage of HGS Crimson Squid. While upon a trading expedition to the Far East, the fair HGS Crimson Squid was blown off course to the shores of Northern India. Come join the crew or the natives to exchange spit customs by participating in a fencing tourney, a lively round of Harp Seal, and an Arts and Sciences exhibition.

The Expedition leaves port at 10 AM on February 15, 1997 from the shores of Coppertree's Staley Jr. High School (620 E. Bloomfield St., Rome, NY 13440). The Patron of this voyage (read autocrat) is Duchess Rowan de la Garnison (Loie Hodge, P.O. Box 627, Westmoreland, NY, 13490. 315-855-4402). Please send reservations to her. A modest fee of $6 buys your passage and lunch, $8 more gets you onboard. Halflings are half price. Please make checks payable to "SCA, Inc.-Shire of Coppertree." The site is DRY.

A sumptuous Indian feast is being prepared by our own native guides, Baron Daniel del Cavallo and Lady Edana Aldys Haukyns. Questions regarding the feast (including those regarding allergies) should be directed to Baron Daniel at 315-337-2373 or cavallo@dreamscape.com. Persons interested in placing items in the A&S exhibit should bring items that feature either the fencer's art (a weapon, armor, accessory, or a poem, story, research, scroll or other art about or involving fencers/fencing), or that other talent that employs a thin metal weapon-embroidery. For more information please contact Viscountess Meirwen uerch Owein (Rosemary Mink) at the autocrat's address. The fencing tournament will cover all weapons forms. For more information, please contact Lord Diego Miguel Munoz de Castillo (315-735-2195).

There will be an area set aside for children's activities. We ask that parents bring toys to share and take turns supervising. In the past we have had a problem with unsupervised children. This year, any such children's parents will be sold as serfs to the Barony of Delftwood. Site closes at 10 PM.

About the Menu: Comments from the Harp Seal Cook

by Daniel del Cavallo

The spices for the dishes served at the Baby Harp Seal Passage to India feast will all be used to the letter of the recipe with the exception of cayenne pepper and chillies. Cayenne pepper powder will actually be a mixture of 25% cayenne pepper powder and 75% of the best paprika we can find this side of Budapest. For chillies, we will be using a mixture of similar proportions of chillies and sweet Italian frying peppers.

If you have other special dietary restrictions or questions about the menu, you will need to contact the autocrat in writing by the reservation deadline. The menu is available by e-mail at cavallo@dreamscape.com or on my web page at http://cavallo.rny.com/Dan/feast/menu.html.

If you make a chain mail shirt and forget to leave a head hole, you might be a Norman.
